How VocalCheck decides your voice type
The result screen does one calculation. It takes your two notes — lowest and highest — and compares that span with the standard range of each of the seven classical voice types, from bass at the bottom to soprano at the top. For each type it counts how many semitones your range and that type's range have in common. The type with the most semitones in common is your result.
Two things follow from that. Your range almost always overlaps several types, so the result is the best fit, not a verdict — a G2–G4 voice is a baritone, but it shares most of that span with bass and tenor too. And the tool only sees range: it cannot hear where your voice is comfortable or where it breaks, which is why a teacher may classify you differently. The full rule, with worked examples →
Your audio never leaves the browser
The microphone feed goes into the Web Audio API on your device, a pitch detector turns it into a note name, and the sound is discarded. No audio is uploaded or stored, and there is no account to attach it to. The result itself is written into the page URL so you can bookmark it, share it, or retest in a month and compare. The only other thing that leaves your browser is anonymous usage analytics, which never include audio — the privacy policy lists exactly what.
Who makes this
VocalCheck is built and maintained by one independent developer, writing as Iris Lambert. It exists because too many "free" range tests hide the answer behind a sign-up or a paid plan. Read more about the project, or email contact@vocalcheck.io if a result or a guide looks wrong.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my voice recorded or uploaded?
No. All audio processing happens locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is ever sent to a server.
Do I need to create an account?
No. VocalCheck requires no login, no sign-up, and no email address. Just open the page and start.
What if I don't want to use a microphone?
Use the piano keyboard instead — tap your lowest then highest comfortable note and get your result instantly, no mic required.
How accurate is the piano method?
It's accurate to the semitone you select. If you know roughly where your voice sits on a piano, you'll get a reliable voice type estimate.
What is a vocal range?
Your vocal range is the span between the lowest and highest notes you can comfortably sing. It's usually described in octaves and determines your voice type (Soprano, Tenor, Bass, etc.).
Can I share my results?
Yes. Your result page has a shareable link, a copy-link button, and a downloadable card image ready for Instagram or Twitter.
